About North of Montana
The North of Montana Avenue neighborhood in Santa Monica is among the most coveted and expensive real estate in the city, county and the state.
This beautiful neighborhood is made up of mostly single-family residences ranging from $2-$5 million, and is served by two highly regarded public elementary schools, Franklin and Roosevelt. North of Montana has a little something for everyone, whether you enjoy the charm of an original Spanish 1920s construction or the luxury of a modern new construction.
What else makes North of Montana so desirable? Here are a few reasons why this neighborhood is so beloved:
- The Gillette’s Regent Square – Developed by King Gillette in 1910, the razor blade manufacturer decided to leave his business and put all of his money into real estate. The area consists of homes between 17th Street and 21st Place. The lot sizes in Gillette’s Regent Square are much larger than most of the lots in Santa Monica, averaging 9,000 square feet.
- Proximity – Homes North of Montana are close to it all. Most are in walking distance to the beach as well as the exclusive restaurants and shops of Montana Avenue and the Third Street Promenade. The 10 and 405 Freeways are close enough for easy access, but are also far enough away to keep the neighborhood quiet and light on traffic.
- Family Friendly – Not only is North of Montana served by two of the best public schools in Los Angeles, the large lots allow for big back yards that can be a hard find in Los Angeles. During Halloween, the streets near 16th Street and Georgina Avenue are famous for their prevalence of trick or treaters, parties and the sheer amount of people.
- Casual and laid-back, beach atmosphere – One of the great things about living North of Montana is how casual and laid-back the area is. The number of tourists cruising around is low, you are far from the loud clubs and traffic of Hollywood and the celebrities that live here are able to go outside and walk along the streets without being bothered by paparazzi (for the most part).
